Brion Gysin in Tangier (1990) + Hot Water Music (1989)

Image
Across the moors Two riders were approaching Wearing the hincty cape of Dr. Sax Across the moors On cloven hooves & benzedrine Two riders were coming fast upon the moors Check in hotel & disappear And Brion Gysin in Tangier With El Hombre Invisible, El Hombre Invisible Who appears in a coat With nothing beneath But bullfighting posters Amazonian vines Talking a mile-a-minute And swiftly sick in Tangier Into the mirror disappear And Brion Gysin in Tangier Seeking a recipe book for some spells And not the thing found in the ventilator shaft He finds a gummed-up ball of human hair Bubble gum and crow's feet A gummed-up ball of human hair Bubble gum and crow's feet

Star Crane (1990)

Image
( (art by JE Moores from the complete Lippy Lion comic book of my lyrics) He made a star crane that went up to the sky Went way up there brought 'em down to the Earth TV anchorman wondering why And this whole place looks like Las Vegas Me sweating under these Vegas lights And people are falling through the atmosphere tonight He made a star crane that went up to the sky Went way up there brought them down to the earth *** Song video from 8/2023 support this and my other writing & music projects at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/danletras

Josie (1988)

Image
Josie sold shoes by the sea shore, not shells And they kicked his ass, they kicked his ass They told him to bury his head in the sand That's where he lives today, with his head in the sand There's a moral here Josie kept rats in his flat not cats And they bit his toe, and they bit his toe They gave him TB and they made him eat stew That's what he does today, he's eating stew today There's a moral here Josie left home, joined a show on the road Where he eats live toads, he eats live toads The taste isn't good but he's hungry as hell That's what he does today, he's eating toads today (art by JE Moores from the complete Lippy Lion comic book of my lyrics) *** song video from 8/2023 *** to support this and my other writing & music projects https://www.buymeacoffee.com/danletras

The future's doing tricks in my yard The ocean's puking broken toys Monster legions float above me I found a snake in a broken clock Clocks don't tell me what my name is My name's a thing I can't recall All the things I said before Make no sense when I awake Chorus: When I awake When I awake I confess I did the right thing I admit you're in the wrong My shoulders ache like armadillos Armadillos walk at dawn Dawn's a time that smells like flowers Flowers aching in the dawn Dawn's a time that smells like flowers Flowers aching in the dawn Chorus: Aching in the dawn Aching in the dawn (1989) *** - Feel free to throw a few bones to support this and my other writing & music projects at Buy Me a Coffee here . - Hear the lyrics with music! Diner Song

Image
I tried every trick in the book It didn't work I rubbed two stones together Lightning didn't come By the side of the road Two lovers kiss Their hands form a snake And it slithers away Beneath a wooden bridge Covered with moss Like the moss that covers The lock on my heart Chorus: I wanted to fly But wings have a way Of slipping off into sky In a tin roof diner booth There's blue all around And I dream of a bluebird On the window ledge Beneath the sun above Her eyes are so big She flies through a hole In the top of the roof Past the waitresses And the jukebox And into this cup I've been holding all day Chorus: I wanted to fly But wings have a way Of slipping off into sky (1991) *** Feel free to throw a few bones to support this and my other music & writing projects at Buy Me a Coffee here . Head Burner

Image
I was standing on a star way down I was picking petals from your frown I put burners on the sides of my head I met a demon on his way to town And I wear seven hats for seven days In seven ways I saw your hands In seven lands in seven times These seven hands are holding signs Sticky lands are walking sticks Across my head ferociously  Bridge I was walking through a summer Who can be so all alone? Introduction

Image
I started writing songs in high school. The first lyric I remember writing was for a song called "Chic East Sider," inspired by a satirical black and white poster featuring a foppish and pretentious fellow emblematic of the intellectuals and poseurs who frequented Downer Avenue on Milwaukee's East Side in the 1980s. (A subculture to which I would join in a few years- ha, ha - hopefully, not as a poseur).  The song featured all major barre chords and a staccato new wave rhythm. It wasn't very good, but it was a start. This blog will serve as an archive of the song lyrics I have written since then, with an eye a toward publishing a print book of them in the future. It is not a "completist" project; I am just collecting together the song lyrics of mine that I really like. For most of the older lyrics, I am simply typing them up from memory. The lyrics were composed in a notebook or in my head and then memorized.  It has been gratifying to dictate the lyrics int...
